Autonomous vehicles (AV)

In addition, a V2X infrastructure, where vehicles are connected with traffic control infrastructure, could provide up to 40% energy savings for EV and hydrogen vehicles, when using GLOSA (Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory Services) to synchronise the AV's speed with the phasing of traffic lights.
Autonomous vehicles (AV) are usually not connected with a city's ITS infrastructure and currently deploy in-vehicle sensors (video, radar, lidar) to detect objects along the route. Such AVs do not see potentially dangerous objects (other vehicles, pedestrians, alternative obstacles), which might be situated out of the direct line of sight (i.e. located around the corner, hidden by other vehicles, etc.).
As a result, AVs should potentially slow down when approaching road crossings and other road segments where there is no direct line of sight.
V2ROADS facilitates an environment where V2X infrastructure can be installed at road junctions and other potentially dangerous road segments to detect possible hazards, including individual vehicles, buses, bicycles, pedestrians and other obstacles. We can record their characteristics such as the position on the road, object type, dimensions and broadcast the object's details relative to the approaching AV over a V2X online communication interface.
Such a device will support the visibility of road users at junctions where the field of vision is obscured or where traffic is flowing at higher speeds (up to 80km/h).
